(Super (Blue??) ?) Blood Moon. What???

Last year while the nights were still long in the southern hemisphere I got up super early to photograph a super blue blood moon. An ungainly phraseology combining three separate lunar events that happened to occur simultaneously on a single night, and visible from a single location.

I couldn't waste the opportunity so I set my alarm alarmingly early to catch the event.

You can see my results here:

“Supermoon” – When a new moon or full moon is at perigee, the point of its orbit which is closest to Earth. Occurs approximately once every 2.5 months.

“Blood moon” – A total lunar eclipse. The Earth’s atmosphere casts a coppery hue across the moon’s surface. Occurs approximately once every 1.5 years.

“Blue moon” – Generally defined as the second full moon in a calendar month. The moon does not turn blue. Occurs approximately once every 2.5 years.

“Super blue blood moon” – An alignment of all three lunar events. It last happened in 1866 and will happen again in 2028.
